Do I need permission from my contacts to send emails to them?

To avoid being labeled a spammer the best practice is to make sure that you have explicit permission (or “affirmative consent”) from all contacts on your lists to send them email. This means your contacts have been fully notified of the collection and use of their email addresses and have consented to such collection and use.

So, for example, if you are collecting email addresses through a form on your website or landing page make sure you include a checkbox that users must check to add themselves to your list. You can also utilize a double opt-in email to reinforce the permission agreement.
